Abstract Mountain regions provide essential ecosystem goods and services (EGS). Global change however endangers the capacity of mountain ecosystems to provide key services. The ‹Mountland› project is focusing on three case study regions in the Swiss Alps and aims at proposing land-use practices and alternative policy solutions to ensure the provision of EGS under climate and land-use changes. In ‹Mountland› an integrative approach is applied, combining methods from agricultural economics and the political and natural sciences to analyse ecosystem functioning from a holistic human-environment system perspective. In this poster paper, I give a short introduction to the project and summarize those results which are based on the socioeconomic land-use model ALUAM which provided a platform for the integration of different inter-and transdisciplinary data and knowledge on a common scale.

Simulation of climate change in Iran during 2071-2100 using PRECIS regional climate modelling system

Parameters such as future precipitation, temperature, snowfall, and runoff were modeled using PRECIS regionalclimate modeling system in Iran with the horizontal resolutions of 0.44×0.44°C in latitude and longitude under SRESA2 and B2 scenarios. The dataset was based on HadAM3p during the periods of 1961-1990 and 2071-2100. Theoverall precipitation error of the model in the period of 1961-1990 w...

Investigating the Effect of Dam Construction on Land Use Change and Land Cover in the Period 1991 to 2020 (Case Study: Gotvand-Khuzestan Dam)

Humans are always trying to change land to use natural resources to meet their needs. One of the land use changes that take place in order to benefit from sustainable water resources is dam construction. Dam construction has many positive and negative consequences for the environment from the beginning to use. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Gotvand Dam on the probl...

Climate change effects on wheat yield and water use in oasis cropland

Agriculture of the inland arid region in Xinjiang depends on irrigation, which forms oasis of Northwest China. The production and water use of wheat, a dominant crop there, is significantly affected by undergoing climate variability and change. The objective of this study is to quantify inter-annual variability of wheat yield and water use from 1955 to 2006. The farming systems model APSIM (Agr...
